baked onion dip

Baked Onion DipThe Super Bowl is almost here, and you know what that means – it’s appetizers and dips time!  I mean seriously – Super Bowl parties are obviously just a thinly veiled excuse to eat lots of less-than-great-for-you-but-oh-so-delicious foods.  Like this baked onion and parmesan dip.  I first made this dip for a New Year’s Eve party, and let me tell you – whoa. Ooey gooey cheese, baked up with sweet onions?  Can’t really go wrong there.  The other awesome thing about this party food is that it couldn’t be simpler – it’s only 5 ingredients, all of which you likely have on hand, mixed together and then thrown in the oven to bake.  Classic example of the whole being better than the sum of its parts right there.  You could even mix the dip early in the morning, then bake it off right before your guests arrive.  Now that’s a perfect party food.

Baked Onion Dip 2

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 1 cup mayonnaise (light mayo worked fine)
  • 1 cup diced sweet onion
  • 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon freshly ground black pepper

Preheat the oven to 350°F.  Stir all ingredients together until thoroughly combined.  Transfer to a small baking dish (a 1 quart dish worked perfectly).  Bake for 45-55 minutes, until the top is a deep golden brown.  Serve warm with baguette slices, crackers, chips, or whatever else you desire!

  1. I am ALL about sauces and dips, and this looks amazing because I’m also a sucker for crunch tops! I’m pretty sure if I saw this at a party, I’d scoop the top onto a single cracker and then run for my life away from the angry mob of guests and hosts. :P
